Outer Banks Horse Bitten By Snake Euthanized
- Updated: May 29, 2020
A horse that was part of the Corolla Wild Horse herd in the Outer Banks, N.C., has been euthanized at North Carolina State University. Bitten by a venomous snake on May 17, the horse’s wound continued to worsen and the treating veterinarian recommended that the filly, named Valor, be sent to NC State Veterinary Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Valor’s tendon sheath was infected and though surgery was an option, it was determined to have a poor chance for success. The 2-year-old was euthanized on Saturday morning. A necropsy will be performed.
